Terms
Green Claws is made and run by Zander Martineau. Using the app means accepting what follows.
Last updated 19 August 2026.
The almanac is guidance, not expert advice
This is the part worth reading properly.
Green Claws identifies plants from photographs and writes care notes automatically. Both can be wrong. An identification is a best guess with a confidence figure attached, which is why the app asks you to confirm every one rather than filing it silently. Care notes are drafted by a model, grounded in public horticultural data where that exists, and only some records have been checked by a person. The app tells you which.
Never eat, brew, apply to skin, or give to an animal any plant on the strength of what this app tells you. Toxicity information is a prompt to go and check, not a verdict. Many garden plants closely resemble ones that will harm you, and telling them apart is a job for a qualified botanist with the plant in front of them.
If you think a person has been poisoned, ring 999 or contact NHS 111. If you think an animal has, ring your vet. Do not spend time in this app.
Nothing here is medical, veterinary or professional horticultural advice, and no responsibility is taken for plants that die, for garden work done on the strength of a seasonal job, or for harm resulting from a misidentification.
Your account
Signing in uses Sign in with Apple. Keep your Apple Account secure, because anyone with it can reach your garden. You must be old enough to hold an Apple Account in your country.
What you photograph and publish
Your photographs remain yours. Storing and displaying them back to you requires permission to do so, and publishing your garden extends that to showing them on a public page for as long as publishing stays on. Turning it off ends that.
Only photograph what you are entitled to photograph, and do not publish anything unlawful or anything that identifies someone who has not agreed to it. Accounts publishing such material may be taken down.
Free and Pro
The app is free to download and free to use for up to five plants, with the full almanac for those five. Pro removes the limit and adds publishing.
- Pro (Annual) is £19.99 a year and renews automatically.
- Pro (Lifetime) is £49 as a single payment and does not renew.
Those are the United Kingdom prices. In other countries the App Store charges the equivalent in your local currency, set from Apple’s regional pricing for those tiers. That is not always a direct conversion, and it may include local taxes. The App Store shows the exact amount in your own currency before you confirm, and that figure is the one you pay.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless you turn auto-renew off at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and your account is charged for the renewal within 24 hours of that point. Manage or cancel it in your Apple Account settings. Cancelling stops the next charge and leaves the current period running.
Apple handles all payments and all refunds. Requests go to Apple, not to me. Prices may change, with notice, and a change never applies to a period already paid for.
If Pro lapses, your plants and photographs stay where they are. Plants beyond the fifth become read-only rather than being deleted, and a published garden comes down.
Availability
This is a small app run by one person. It may be unavailable, may lose features, and may stop entirely. Reasonable notice will be given before shutting it down, along with a way to get your photographs out. The service is provided as it is, with no guarantee that it is fit for any particular purpose.
Liability
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Beyond that, liability is limited to the amount you have paid in the twelve months before the claim, and does not extend to lost profit, lost data or indirect loss.
If you use the app for a business, the consumer protections referred to below do not apply to you.
Ending it
You can stop using the app whenever you like, and delete your plants and photographs from inside it. Accounts that break these terms may be suspended or removed.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK you keep the protection of your local consumer law.
Changes
These terms may change. The date at the top changes with them, and a change that affects what you pay or what you get will be told to you in the app rather than made quietly.
